What are the fees for your services?

Costs for my services can be hourly, lump sum, or based upon acreage depending on what is being done. Timber sales are generally commission based from a percentage of the highest paid bid price. I will usually not charge for a first time visit to meet a landowner and look at their property.

How do I know if Forest Tax Law (480-a) is right for me?

An 80% reduction on the assessment of forested acreage is a great benefit, as well as having a management plan set up for the acreage. However, there are costs to maintain the plan and implement management practices when needed. This question is best answered on a case by case basis with much of the decision being based upon the landowner’s long-term interest for the property.

Why should I hire an independent consulting forester when I can deal directly with a logger or sawmill?

Loggers and sawmills are an asset to the forest landowner. If it were not for their ability to harvest and compete for standing timber, your timber would not have the value that it does. However, as with any business you may be involved with occasionally, there may be more to it than what meets the eye. Long term planning, knowledge of markets and liabilities, wildlife management, and contract details are some of the benefits I can offer to you. As an independent forester, I put my focus on you the landowner, not someone else’s business I am working for.

If I work with you on a specific project will I be required to continue to use your services?

Absolutely not. I am committed to helping forest landowners find solutions, offer guidance, answer questions, offer market updates and provide my knowledge and experience where it can benefit them. My services and fees can be broken down in a step by step manner in a simple contract that is fair to both with no long term commitments. I want your business and I understand I need to continuously meet your needs in order to keep it.
