Consulting Forester Services

It takes a long time to grow hardwood timber and making the right decisions on how to manage this naturally renewable resource.

New York State Tax Law offers large property tax exemptions (80%) to landowners who commit their forested acreage to long-term forest management. I am well versed in this program and offer new management plans, updates, addendums, and help with ownership changes and compliance issues.

Timber Sales

I consistently put out and oversee timber sales with the ability and ambition to do the field work regardless of weather or time of year. I therefore have the ability to have up to date information of markets and pricing. Sale notices are sent to dozens of potential timber buyers in order to find the best markets and the best price for your timber. Your sale will be overseen by myself from beginning to end, with a performance bond held by myself from the buyer, to ensure you are satisfied and your property is well taken care of.

Timber Theft

Investigation, value assessment, and expert witness.

Management Plans

DEC Stewardship Plans and NRCS CAP plans that will identify forest resources and landowner objectives as well as making landowners eligible for EQIP cost-share funding. EQIP funding will help pay for many management activities such as non-commercial thinning, invasive and interfering species control, forest road and trail establishment, etc.

Timber Appraisals

Weather they are done by plot cruses or 100% tallies, an accurate timber appraisal can give an owner a great deal of information regarding their forestland. When marking timber for a sale, I will also give an appraisal of the current value. I have also done 100’s of timber appraisals for the natural gas industry over the last few years for pipeline R-O-W’s and well pads.

Tree Planting

Years of planting hardwoods, softwoods, and wildlife species has given me a great deal of knowledge on the best species to plant for your objectives. Planting trees is hard work, but a very satisfying experience for myself and the landowner.

Boundary Lines

Because of my education and years of experience, I have the ability to assist landowners in locating, identifying, and marking boundary lines. Identifying and maintaining accurate boundary lines is one of the best ways to prevent timber theft, poaching, and trespassing.

Wildlife Management

When done right forest management, by default, will always result in manipulating wildlife habitat for many game and non-game species. I have the knowledge and education to give you better results and help achieve goals for specific habitats and wildlife species.

Invasive and Interfering Species Management

These unwanted species compete with native tree and shrub species diminishing forest diversity, wildlife habitat, and future forests by outcompeting new regeneration. Knowing how to best control these problem species will help your woodlands reach their best potential and allow for multiple uses by you.

Timber Stand Improvement

Marking and cutting stands for non-commercial thinnings will give long-term results in improved growth for higher value timber species.

The South Central Forest Products Difference

I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed against the sweet earth’s flowing breast.
A tree that looks at God all day and lifts her leafy arms to pray.
A tree that may in summer wear a nest of robins in her hair.
Upon whose bosom snow has lain, who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree.
